The Planning Workshop was organized at Mahibadhoo, the headquarter island of Alifu atoll as an important step in the formulation of an integrated atoll development project for the area. The idea behind the Workshop was to identify development constraints faced by the people and to explore ways and means of overcoming them, in consultation with a cross section of the local population. The process laid emphasis on the involvement of the intended beneficiaries and local leaders in a two-way planning process and exposing the national officials to a tested methodology of organized consultations at the local level.
