Abstract
The Regional Remote Sensing Seminar on Tropical Ecosystem Management was held at Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from 8 to 14 September 1993. The seminar was jointly organized by the National Space Development Agency (NASDA) of Japan, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Sarawak State Government and the Malaysian Centre for Remote Sensing (MACRES). The main objective of the Seminar was to exchange information on remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) applications to sustainable ecosystem management in the Asia-Pacific region and to promote the integration of remote sensing applications with social and economic development planning. Another objective of the Seminar was to provide lectures and hands-on training on the use of personal computer-based remote sensing and GIS facilities for tropical ecosystem management as a follow-on programme to the International Space Year (ISY) activities in the Asia-Pacific region.
