Abstract
The 1982 Nineteenth Session of the Committee for Co-ordination of Joint Prospecting for Mineral Resources in Asian Offshore Areas (CCOP), held in Tokyo, Japan, reviewed and coordinated regional efforts in offshore mineral resource exploration across Asia. Attended by representatives from member and cooperating countries, the session covered a wide range of technical, organizational, and strategic topics.
Key areas of focus included:
Hydrocarbon Resources: Updates on exploration activities, petroleum data management, and regional hydrocarbon assessments, including cooperation with ASCOPE.-Offshore Mineral Surveys: Progress in offshore tin and heavy mineral exploration, with emphasis on training, equipment use, and data interpretation.
-Quaternary Geology: Mapping and training initiatives, and the establishment of a Regional Centre for Quaternary Geology in China.
-Geophysical Programs: Compilation and interpretation of gravity and magnetic data to support regional geological understanding.
-Environmental and Marine Mapping: Development of sea-floor and continental margin maps, and participation in marine environmental programs.
-Training and Publications: Continued emphasis on capacity building through workshops, seminars, and technical publications.
-International Cooperation: Strengthened ties with organizations such as UNDP, ESCAP, IOC/UNESCO, and various national geological agencies.
