Abstract
Macroeconomic models are often used to simulate changes in economic performance quantitatively in response to proposed changes in policies. Information of that nature is of substantial importance to policy makers, especially during the implementation of economic reforms when they are faced with many alternative policy choices. A number of developing countries in the Asian and Pacific region now undergoing economic reforms are already making use of quantitative models for the purpose of evaluating such choices. In order to share experiences with the use of models and related issues a meeting entitled “National Workshop on Economic Reform in Viet Nam: Policy Analysis, Macroeconomic Reforms and Macroeconomic Models” was organized in Hanoi from 19 to 20 August 1996. Five background papers dealing with modelling issues related to economic reforms, model choice, model construction and actual use of models for policy simulations were presented at the workshop. This publication comprises these papers.
