Abstract
The publication examines the implications of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) for developing countries of the ESCAP region and considers alternative scenarios as countries prepare for further multilateral negotiations in the service sector, scheduled to begin in the year 2000. The report includes country papers on Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. This publication aims to assist developing countries in their efforts to pursue a more balanced and equitable trade agenda. This publication presents a summary of the report, studies and papers presented at the Regional Seminar on the Implications of the General Agreement on Trade in Services for Asia-Pacific Economies held in Bangkok from 25 to 26 May 1998.
